Apples and Acorns

Well, I'm a bit puzzled. This particular spot is absolutely covered with big, fresh, white acorns. There are so many that it looks like gravel on the ground. Yet there are relatively few deer eating in here. I even sweetened it up with some fresh apples.
My current theory is that this area is just to open for the deer to spend much time here. So, I moved my camera and even my stand that was about a hundred yards away to another location that is not so open. Maybe I can get some more pics from there.
I've also got two spots picked out for ladder stands, If I only knew two someones with ladder stands sitting in there back yards not doing anything. (Hint, Hint)

While I'm out hunting

As I come in from hunting my wife and kids, especially my oldest, always ask if I seen anything. Well like a lot of hunters in the south that answer is often "NO". When I give them my answer my family loves to proceed to tell me about all the deer they saw in the back yard while I was in a tree seeing nothing.
They also tell me of all the deer they see while I'm working. My wife's even been known to call me at work to tell me of a buck grazing in the back yard. I finally got my oldest to keep a log for me so I can at least pattern them. I don't know if it will help or not.

Anyway, Here's some back yard deer:

By the way, I finally got my camera back up and running. Hopefully I will have some pics by the weekend.

Fish'n from a tree stand

Today, while hunting in John's tree stand, cause he was not here, I had a problem with a shooting lane that was blocked by some dead limbs. He had told me about the problem a few days ago, saying that he was going to have to take a saw in to saw a limb down. I had not planned to hunt His stand so I didn't pay it much attention at the time. However. I have run across this issue before and thought others might benefit from this little trick.

If you have ever had a dead limb hang down across your shooting lane just out of reach or maybe you did not have a saw at the time, this might help.

Take your pull rope or string and attach something of weight to the end of it. This time I had a bolt in my back pack. (Why, you ask, do I have a bolt in my back pack? Answer: just in case some one steals the pins out of your tree stand while you were away. It happened.) Attach the weight to the end of the rope and toss it across the dead limbs. It will inevitably get tangled. Then slowly pull till the limb breaks. It works great!

Unfortunately, nothing walked into that lane today, or anywhere else I might add. I guess that's hunting.
